5 Natural Ways to Get Clean Without Showering

Showering. It’s become somewhat of a standard rule to take one every day.

Of course, hygiene is important, but a daily shower isn’t always necessary, and it can really dry out your skin. Unless you have a very physical job or you workout regularly, you shouldn’t shower any more than two times every three days.

And if you live in an area experiencing drought, there’s an even bigger reason to skip the wasteful shower. Don’t think you can do it? You certainly can.

Here are the best quick tips for getting clean in a snap, without drenching yourself in water or having to lather up with harsh soaps.

1. Use baking soda or organic baby powder as a dry shampoo.
Believe it or not, you can actually train your hair to go longer without needing to be washed. A great way to tackle the the grease that shows up along the roots of your hair is to sprinkle small amounts of baking soda or organic baby powder along the greasiest areas. The soda or powder masks the greasy look and completely transforms your hair!

This may take some practice, and the trick is to make sure you don’t leave any white spots in your hair. Simply flip your head and hair over the sink or tub and start by taking a very small amount of soda or powder in your hand to lightly sprinkle along the roots, being careful not to get much of it on your scalp. Do this all along the roots, using a brush or comb to spread the soda or powder out and blend it in with your hair.

2. Use olive oil to prevent clogged pores and keep skin moisturized.
Washing your face with a regular cleansing product is easy enough, but you may want to consider switching to olive oil (or any other type of natural oil of your choice, like castor oil, sunflower oil, and so on). Unlike regular cleansers, an oil rich in vitamins and antioxidants can help dissolve face-producing oils that clogs your pores. In other words, you may not need to use harsh exfoliation scrubs, facial masks, or even moisturizers as often if you start using olive oil to balance out the natural oils of your skin.

Simply massage a small amount of oil onto your skin using a circular motion, and then place a warm, damp cloth on your face for about a minute. Use the cloth to then wipe away the excess oil. If you already have oily skin, try castor oil with a small amount of tea tree or peppermint oil to ensure your face doesn’t stay greasy.

3. Use apple cider vinegar to naturally deodorize your armpits.
Aside from greasy hair and an oily face, underarm odor is often the next big reason why we shower so often. Believe it or not, apple cider vinegar can be used in place of regular deodorant for its antibacterial properties and ability to balance the pH levels of the skin. You can optionally wipe your armpits with a warm, wet cloth and natural soap first, or just go straight to the apple cider vinegar. Dip a cotton ball in the vinegar and then wipe it across your armpit region.

4. Use a warm, wet cloth or organic baby wipes to cleanse your crotch and derriere region.
When you do shower, your crotch and derriere absolutely must be cleaned. But when you skip showering, a gentle cloth with warm water may be all that you need to clean yourself down there. For women in particular, soap isn’t ever recommended, even when showering. The area is very sensitive and even designed to be self-cleansing, so soap can throw off the balance of bacteria.

Men can also use just a soft cloth with warm water to clean their genitals, or they can opt for an organic brand of baby wipe or even specialized health creams for that area if they’re more prone to developing an odor. Those wipes will also come in handy for both men’s and women’s derriere regions when there’s no time for a shower.

5. Change into clean underwear and clothes made from breathable fabrics.
If you do all of the above and change into a fresh set of clothes, no one will ever know you skipped a shower or two. Make sure to choose clothing (especially underwear) made of breathable fabric like cotton to avoid any odors developing from sweat and bacteria. Women may benefit from using panty liners as well.
Of course, you’ll need to shower eventually, but these tips will hold you over for at least a day – depending on how active you are and how well your skin responds to your daily activities. As a result, you’ll save more time and money on your water bill while also doing your skin a favor by not over-cleansing it!
